(http://www.shoryuken.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=9775) Posted by chunkis on 04:01:2001 01:38 AM: Ok so you want your dreamcast joystick to be more like the arcade, first of all you will need a few items..... ok ill make this brief as posible...you will need a starhead screwdriver...and some super glue(if you have no glue dont worry)ok on we go... Step one:Open up the bottom of you DC stick(bottom people).. Step two:Once you have opened the bottom of the joystick you will see the six button set up on the left and the joystick on the right its the joystick that will be working on. Step three:There should be a plastic white restrictor(white plastic square thing)on top of a small circut board,Now to remove this there are four small clips. Step four:Remove the clips(be careful) by removing the restrictor you are freeing up the movements of the joystick and making it move lose and more free. Step five:After removing the clips make sure that once you have removed the restrictor, that the circut board under it is firmly secure and not lose you can check this buy pressing down on the circut board.(if it comes out just slip it back in make sure you hear a click noise if you dont hear a click its not in right) Step six:Plug your stick back into the dreamcast do not repeat do not close the bottom of the dc stick.Fisrt of all try it out make sure it works first..play a while before you close it up...if after a while the circut board attached to the four red directional buttons falls out of the bottom of the stick(which is what happed to me)you will have to glue it down to hold it in,but if it does not fall out you are in the clear... This is just the basic change of freeing up the joysticks direction which make a great difference,Now the one that i have just completed for a freind has the white restrictor fitted back in its place and is a really nice peice of work, but i dont think that any one here would have the skill to complete such a job,but what i can do for you is..... You dont need to worry about this next step... Advanced final step:The hole in the middle of the restrictor melt it down to make the plastic soft,Now widen the hole in the middle about 3mm in a circular shape now just clip it back in.Now your restrictor is back in close up and your done. What i had done for a freind was that i marked out a circle shape on the restrictor 1mm in from the circut board and laser burned the circle so it was perfect. I hope some of you will try this out it makes a big change to the stick and i have tryed to tell it in a child like way so you all could understand it,Its just going on for 3am ive just watched the 4 starwars flims and i am putting on streetfighter the animated movie...i just cant sleep tonight anyway.......try it out and let me know how you get on. have fun shoryuken! Posted by LOLO on 04:01:2001 01:40 AM: cool... good job~~ is there any way to make them to operate like the japanese controllers?? Posted by chunkis on 04:01:2001 01:58 AM: Well am looking into changing the hole dreamcast stick only keeping the shell as the base for my stick the buttons are only £1.50(dc buttons i find are ok) but the joystick costs a little more,Dont know how much for sure but am looking up some sites on the net on how to build stuff from scratch..its the connection to the console part that i am worried about the most..but to anser your question yeh you can make it like the japanese sticks..all you need is a screw on stick for the dc thay dont make them but if you can get you hands on one from a japanese cabinet sure you could convert it....or find a place that sells them. Posted by bahn on 04:01:2001 05:55 AM: Hm...I already have a DC stick and I don't see any reason to make modifications on it. I thought this was a thread to explain how to get rid of the annoying "clicking noise", not make it perform better. It works fine to me. Posted by Maximum Burst on 04:01:2001 06:02 AM: Thank you finally someone who is smart. Clicking sucks. I really hate it. If you get the Capcom vs. SNK stick Bahn they naturally do not click. It is the best stick ever. Posted by Lar-ry$ on 04:01:2001 06:10 AM: Who HAS a mas systems joystick? What do you think of it? Posted by ReCharredSigh on 04:01:2001 07:11 AM: Whoa! That's cool! You must be some engineering genius...we get all those types of people around here in silicon valley, california. But if you really wanted to, you could just make your own joystick; would take a ton of soldering, and wood-cutting, but yeah, it could be done. But if you really wanted to make your dc joystick more like the arcades', just rub potato chip crumbs all over the joystick and pound on the buttons with a sledgehammer a while until the controls are numbed; at least, that's the way to make the joysticks like the ones in the arcades that aren't managed. The new ASCII pads which were created in lieu of CvS are also great, I plan to get those as well. Posted by Maximum Burst on 04:01:2001 09:31 AM: Yeah i heard they were good. The cards they come with are not to bad either. I got the SNK Blue and grey stick and got the SNK cards. I want to get the Capcom black and yellow hopefully in a week or two. Posted by chunkis on 04:01:2001 08:26 PM: Hay i forgot to tell guys that....taking out the restrictor stops the clicking noise!!!!!!God i used to hate that clicking sound! Posted by chunkis on 04:01:2001 08:31 PM: I dont think i made my self quite clear!!!!You should try this out it really makes the stick a lot better! Posted by KusanagiClan on 04:01:2001 09:46 PM: Maximum Burst, where are you planning on getting this stick? Off of the net, or like some local shop? If it's the net, mind sharing the address, I can't find those anywhere, and MAS sticks are expensive as hell. Posted by chunkis on 04:01:2001 10:07 PM: http://www.happcontrols.com/ check this out...but if you ask me buying stuff over the net is a waste of time anything i buy i like to test in out first...
